Youth Game Night

Although our teens have no problem connecting with friends via technology, they are missing their regular youth group gatherings for prayer, encouragement, and fun. Christ the King (Alexandria, VA)has solved that problem by offering a youth group game night. Most recently they did a scavenger hunt via Zoom. The youth leader would give an item for everyone to find. Whoever got back to the computer fastest, with the object in hand, and typed it in the chat box FIRST, would get a point. Whoever had the most points at the end of the game won. And they won an actual prize…an e-gift card to Amazon.

Items they had to find included: spoon, Bible, toilet paper, pillow, grass, remote control, family photo, deodorant, ketchup, and socks. The idea is to get them moving and in different parts of their house.

The youth loved it and it worked well with a few of these suggestions:

  • The leader (as admin in the Zoom call) should use the “mute all” option when giving directions

  • It’s important that everyone have their name and photo uploaded on Zoom, if there are multiple people on one computer, they are counted together as one “team”/participant.

  • Separate chat rooms via Zoom can be helpful for prayer, small groups.

  • If your group is so big, the game can be split with separate facilitators into the Zoom break out rooms.
