Alpha Offered as Outreach to Community

Resurrection Church in Emporia, VA has begun offering the Alpha course as a new ministry to the people around Lake Gaston, VA.

The Rev. Harry Zeiders explains why the church feels called to this area:

There are around 150,000 people (!) who live in the Lake Gaston area — that's almost nine times the population of Emporia/Greensville County. The next closest Anglican (ACNA) congregation is in the Raleigh/Durham area. It behooves us to reach out to make new disciples around Lake Gaston and to minister to the many Anglicans who have retired to the lake from Raleigh/Durham, Hampton Roads, and Northern Virginia.

Harry requests prayer support, specifically..

  • against the Enemy tempting current church leaders in the Lake Gaston community to feel encroached upon, or to feel that we might 'steal sheep'

  • that we focus on making disciples and not building a church (“If you make disciples, you always get the church. But if you make a church, you rarely get disciples."—Mike Breen)

  • for 'people of peace' who will open doors for us to further God's mission

  • against sprawl — getting detoured by well-intentioned people who have their own agenda, or getting distracted by bright ideas that are not on God's agenda

  • that the favor God has already shown us will only increase as we follow the Holy Spirit's lead.
