Enjoying Tea and Afghan Art

by Amy Rowe

Incarnation Anglican, Arlington, VA, partners with Vera Fernandes of For the For the Nations DC DC, who provides trauma recovery work for Afghan refugee women. As part of our partnership, Incarnation women facilitated an art activity for Afghan refugee women in mid-December. We laughed, drank tea, shared stories, and held babies as we painted together, learning a bit about what it was like to grow up female under Taliban rule, as well as favorite dance moves and memories of home. The paint wasn't even dry on our canvases before our new friends were asking when we could do it again — so in February, we did! These art activities foster bonds of trust and friendship that are essential to the work of our outreach partner, and we hope to make them a regular part of our outreach partnership in 2023.

The Rev. Amy Rowe is the Rector at Incarnation Anglican in Arlington, VA.
