Rebuilding Homes in Harlem Heights, FL

Truro Anglican Church (Fairfax, VA) sent a work team to Harlem Heights, Florida to help rebuild homes and restore lives in a multi-ethnic community affected by the devastation of Hurricane Ian. The Rev. Abigail Whitehouse and The Rev. Mike Seawright prayed for the team during their worship service on June 11. Team members from Truro were: Tony Niles, David Corn, Tony Zipfel and Alan MacDonald. The Truro team partnered with local community leaders, the Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) and Adventures in Mission (a local ministry that oversees the work). Below are a few updates and photos from the trip. Please continue to pray for the families in Harlem Heights still affected by the devastation of Hurricane Ian.

From the team during the mission: "We are working on the home of an elderly couple whose house was inundated by the storm surge of Hurricane Ian. They lost everything in the water that filled their house. We are putting up drywall as a part of the restoration of the home. “

ARDF shared this update on June 21:

Thank you Adventures in Missions staff for a spirit-filled week June 10-16, serving Hurricane Ian survivors in the Harlem Heights neighborhood of Ft. Myers, FL! Of the 314 homes flooded with up to six feet of storm surge, 100 have been completely restored with the goal of completing the balance by Christmas 2023! Volunteers from Truro Anglican, Fairfax, VA, The Falls Church Anglican, Falls Church, VA, St. James Fellowship, Mt. Dora, FL, Apostles Anglican, Houston, TX, and St. Timothy's Anglican, Spring, TX served four families hanging sheetrock, taping and floating, and installing storm windows. It was a joy getting to know the residents of Harlem Heights, worshiping and dining together, and building relationships with brothers and sisters from across the ACNA and Adventures in Missions! Please consider joining ARDF and Disaster ReBuilders of The Fuller Center for Housing, July 29-August 5th, 2023, in Madisonville, KY.
