Apostles Serves at Kenyan Orphanage
by Charlie Baldwin
Church of the Apostles (COA) in Fairfax, VA, continues a 20-year tradition of supporting the St. Nicholas orphanage in Karen, Kenya, in the completion of a visit from November 6-20, 2024. In addition to bi-monthly financial support for food, operations, and school fees, COA provides facilities renovation, special meals, teaching, and mentoring on-site through annual visits. This truly provides hope and improves the lives of the 66 children supported by St. Nicholas.
Our visit to St. Nicholas provided teaching of the Word and mentorship for the Christian lives of the children, introducing them to Pilgrim’s Progress through video and teaching. High school students were offered encouragement for their time in boarding schools. Computers, phones and additional financial support were provided to older kids in an expanding college program. Popcorn and movie nights, arts and crafts sessions, improved sports equipment, and a fried chicken dinner at the end of the visit were also provided. Support to their facilities encompassed replacement of clothesline poles and electrical, window, and wood cook stove repair. Bringing love and joy into the lives of God’s children justifies the time, work, and financial sacrifice for at St. Nicholas, all is paid in full by their smiles and hugs! (Enjoy photos below.)
